5 Ways to Improve Your Dogs Health

Every dog owner wants their pup to live a long, healthy, and happy life. Good health is the foundation that helps you achieve that goal. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the day-to-day routine that we forget about our four-legged friends. If you start to see your dog becoming lethargic, anxious, or depressed, it may be time to focus on their wellbeing. No matter how old your dog is, it is never too late to begin looking at ways to improve your dog’s overall physical and mental health.

  1. Good Nutrition

Making sure you are providing your dog with the best diet possible is key. Your dog’s diet can have far-reaching effects on not only their physical comfort but their mental health as well. A poor diet can result in your dog experiencing gastrointestinal distress, bloating, lethargy, and itchy skin, among other symptoms. A grain-free diet with high-quality protein sources can decrease inflammation, boost energy, and improve overall health.

  1. Exercise

Every dog needs daily exercise to thrive. Just like you, your pup needs to stretch his legs and get some fresh air. Set a goal to get out and walk with your dog each day for at least 30-minutes. If you own a large breed or a high-energy dog, try to get out in the morning and the evening.

  1. Socialization

Dogs are social creatures. Just like humans, if a dog is left by themselves, they get lonely. Take your dog to a dog park or other area where they can meet other pups. Not only will they be happy to play with other friends, but it is also a great source of exercise. This is an excellent opportunity for you to socialize with other owners as well.

  1. Mental Stimulation

Just as the body needs exercise, the mind does as well. It is common for dogs to get bored and turn to chewing on your favorite pair of shoes or gnawing on the coffee table for entertainment. There are a lot of toys and dog-puzzles on the market today that can help keep your dog busy, stimulated and away from your stuff.

  1. Connection & Love

Of course, one of the best ways to improve your pet’s health is to ensure they feel connected and loved. When you spend quality time with your dog, they will feel wanted and safe. Make sure to take some time out of your day to sit, pet and cuddle them. Petting dogs can even be therapeutic for you as well!

If you notice any symptoms that are not going away or getting worse, you must talk to your dog’s veterinarian to rule out any underlying disease or illness. By following these five steps, your dog will be happier, and as a result, so will you!
